I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about Maria! She is an absolutely amazing teacher and an even better person! One of the things I appreciate most about her is her patience. Even when my Japanese is terrible (which happens quite often 😂), she never makes me feel embarrassed or discouraged. Maria is great! She's incredibly patient, understanding, and makes learning Japanese genuinely enjoyable. I'm a complete beginner, and after booking a trip to Japan earlier in 2026, I wanted to learn enough Japanese to understand common responses, recognise basic phrases, and communicate a little during my trip. With my departure getting closer, Maria has made sure we're focusing on what will be most useful, from everyday phrases and sentence structure to particles and things I'm likely to see or hear in Japan. Although these are technically "classes", I've become so much more comfortable as our lessons have gone on. They now feel more like hanging out with a friend, laughing at my struggles to learn Japanese! There's never any pressure, and Maria explains everything so clearly that I rarely need to ask questions. One of my favourite parts is when Maria throws in a little test, asking me to build a sentence or say something in Japanese. She always helps when I get stuck (which is about 99% of the time, lol). It's a great way to make you think about what you've learned and see what you remember from previous lessons. Those particles are still my nemesis, though! 😂 Overall, I genuinely enjoy every lesson and always look forward to the next one. Maria has made learning Japanese fun, relaxed, and rewarding, and I couldn't recommend her enough! :)

Hello everyone, I'm Maria!
I'm half Japanese and half Spanish, and I fell in love with teaching 5 years ago!
I know how challenging it can be to learn a new language (trust me, I've been there!), so my goal is to make sure we have fun, keep things interesting and easy, while also sharing the beauty of Japanese culture. Learning a language should feel like a conversation with a friend, not an exam. My lessons are relaxed, practical and personal. We laugh, we talk about your life, and the grammar sneaks in along the way.
I believe the most important thing is to enjoy the journey!
